Whether you create or consume content, it’s a part of everyday life and almost every single successful business. Understanding the various types of content and what they can be used for can be vital in boosting your company or brand’s engagement. This blog post will go over the most popular types of content creation and what they can be used for.
Blog Posts
The type of content you are consuming right now, is a blog post. Through written word, blogs can educate, entertain, and inspire your audience (Santiago, 2024). Blog posts can cater to your business and reach your target audience using keywords or phrases to ensure your blog pops up in the search results. Companies or brands will often elaborate in a blog post on a certain topic, question, or insight. For example, a wellness company might post blogs related to wellness tips, tricks, or trends. Here are some content creation ideas for blogs: answer a question, compare and contrast solutions to a problem, teach something, or a weekly or monthly series your readers can follow (Santiago, 2024).
Social Media
Social media posts are arguably the most effective type of content when it comes to reaching a wider audience, which can help lead traffic to your website and your other forms of content. Although it has less to do with keywords, and more to do with the appearance and delivery of the information, social media posts can be extremely effective for short bursts of information (McCormick, 2024). Typically, the social media posts that do well are “visually appealing, easy to digest quickly, and have personality” (McCormick, 2024). The best platforms to share this type of content include Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
Videos
In recent years, video content has been on the rise and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. When consumers don’t have time to read a blog post, or other longer forms of content, videos can reach an audience while sharing crucial information. Both short-form and long-form videos are popular and should have a place in your content creation strategy (Santiago, 2024). Video content creation can include five-minute quick tips, three-minute explainer videos, 20-second TV commercials, time lapse videos, etc. Two elements you can include in your video content are animation and blog content. Using animations will make your videos stand out and leave a lasting impression on consumers. Additionally, repurposing your blog content may sound redundant, but it can reestablish the same ideas or points you’re trying to get across to your audience with a better chance of reaching more people.
Podcasts
Podcasts can be found on apps such as Spotify or Apple Music and are relatively accessible to many people. They’re great for throwing on while you’re in the car, or going on a long walk, or even cleaning around the house. Typically, they feature in-depth conversations that allow the creator to share expertise and engage with the audience (Lindley, 2025). Podcasts work particularly well when you want to discuss timely topics in detail, feature conversations with industry experts, or have engaging interviews with influencers.
eBooks
eBooks can also include whitepapers and are “comprehensive guides that help you share detailed insights while collecting potential customers’ information” (Lindley, 2025). This type of content is truly useful and works best when the topic you’re covering requires in-depth coverage and offers insights audiences can’t easily find elsewhere (Lindley, 2025). Some content creation ideas for eBooks include intense projects involving extensive research, tools & templates, or kits & workbooks.
